Along time ago on the Island of Sodor there was a little railway called the North Western. Then the narrator gives an introduction to Edward and Gordon. Then Gordon tells Edward that Sir Topham Hat was going to order another engine. James came by, and told Gordon that wooden brakes were just as good as Gordon's.

Latter Edward was back in the year when he hear a voice he'd never heard before. Edward, James and Gordon meet Thomas at Knapford station. Sir Topham Hatt came and meet Thomas, he told him that Edward would show him what to do. Then all the engine's laughed after Sir Topham Hatt left.
As Thomas learns about shunting in the yard "He's a Really Useful Engine" plays. That night at Tidmouth Sheds Thomas meet Henry, and Edward told the story about how he was afraid of rain, and wouldn't come out of the tunnel.
The next day Thomas went to the Steamworks and was re-painted Blue with a number one. After that Thomas went to the yard to show Edward his new coat of paint. Then Edward had to pull a train, so Thomas worked in the yard alone. When James came by latter Thomas thought he smelled a burning smell coming from James when he dropped of his coaches.
Then Thomas asked Henry why he was afraid of rain, Henry said he didn't know why. The next day Thomas was late getting Godrons' coaches, so to get back at Thomas for waking him he he started to quickly and pulled Thomas along his express route.
After that Thomas went away to rest, and had a long drink. The next day Thomas was back working in the yard again. Then Thomas wondered what the cars in the siding were for, it was the brake down train, named Judy and Jermone. Annie and Clarabel explained that they were only for emergency's
, and not to disturb them.
The next morning Henry's boiler was hurting, so Thomas went to fetch Henry's coaches. Thomas was excited because if Henry was ill he might get to pull his train. Henry never came, so Thomas got to pull the train. Thomas was to excited and pulled away before the coaches were coupled. Soon he stopped at a signal at danger, and the signal man asked him where his coaches were.
Thomas went back to get them, and set of again. That night the other engine's thought it was funny that Thomas left his coaches behind. Edward told Thomas he could take his goods train the next day. The next morning Thomas took the goods train, but on the way down Gordon's hill he bashed in to the buffer's.
Sir Topham Hatt was cross with Edward for giving Thomas the train, and said they would both have to stay in the yard until Thomas knew more about trucks. Latter it was raining and Henry was saying in the shed because it was raining, Thomas helped Henry get over being afraid of the rain, then he pulled his train.
The next day James' brake blocks were on fire and he was out of control. Thomas tried to couple up to the back of James, but it didn't work. James and the train came of the rail's, and Thomas went to get the brake down train. Once James was back on the tracks Thomas took him to the Steam Works.

The next day Thomas meet Glynn in a siding while pulling his train for the fist time. Then the credits rolled.
My Thoughts
This was a great special for Thomas' 70th Anniversary. I really liked Sir Topham Hatt's face expression's, and he seems like a different character. It was strange that Percy wasn't introduced in this special, but I guess that would have made it to long.
I was expecting that Glynn would have more of a story, but he just had a short introduction near the end, and old engine covered in weeds in a siding, kind of like Hero. Other than that it was a great story with good music. I thought that the"He's a Really Useful Engine" was a little to slow on that version though.
